I snuggled closer to the warm pillow beside me, curling one arm around it and pressing my cheek against the soft surface as it rose and fell rhythmically. When the pillow grunted and moved beneath me, my eyes flew open. I was sleeping next to Dryx, my naked body flush to his, as he lay on his back with the dark sheets pulled up to drape at our waists.

I was instantly snapped from my blissful sleep, my heart racing as I lifted my head from his chest. Dryx mumbled something unintelligible and coiled an arm around me, resting it on my back. Okay, that wasn’t going to make it easier to slip from bed.

The overhead lights were glowing amber and getting brighter by the second. It must have been some sort of subtle alarm setting. Not a bad way to wake up, but it meant that Dryx would probably be waking soon. I needed to get up and out before he woke, and we had to have an awkward, morning-after conversation.

Moving glacially slowly, I pushed myself up and attempted to slip from under his arm.

“Sneaking out?”

His deep rumble of a voice startled me so much I almost collapsed back on him. I sat up quickly, tugging the sheet around my chest. “I wasn’t sneaking.”

“No?” He bent his arms and tucked his hands under his head, as he watched me with obvious amusement. “You should consider intelligence work. You’re stealthier than I would have expected.”

I gave him a dark look as I wiggled to the edge of the bed. “I didn’t plan on sleeping here.”

“A lot of things happened last night that I didn’t plan on.”

My cheeks warmed as memories of being pressed against the shower wall cascaded over me. I hadn’t enjoyed a shower that much in, well, ever. Not that I was going to tell Dryx. The Drexian was already cocky enough. “About that. I don’t think we should mention what happened to anyone.”

“You think I would share details of what I do with my future mate?” He looked genuinely offended as he pushed himself up on his elbows.

“Fake future mate,” I corrected, “and I know that guys like to brag about their exploits. I’ve even heard about some of yours.”

He held up a finger. “You might have heard about what happened afterward or the drama of my Drexian brothers helping me fight off an angry male of which I’d been previously unaware, but you’ve never heard any details of what I’ve done with a female.”

I hesitated. Okay, technically he was right. All the stories I’d heard involved daring escapes out a balcony, or high-speed pursuits through a city. “Good. That means there won’t be a problem keeping this between us.”

He hooked an arm around my waist and attempted to pull me back to bed. “I preferred when there was nothing between us.”

I slapped at him, trying to retain my stern expression and not laugh. It was hard to be annoyed with him after last night. I was still buzzing from the high of so many orgasms, and I knew the glow wouldn’t wear off any time soon.
